Theodolites have a long history, starting way back in the 16th century! ๐
The first modern theodolite was invented by a man named Leonard Digges in England. He created it in 1571. Before that, people used simpler tools like cross staffs. In the 18th century, another brilliant mind, the mathematician and surveyor William Muirhead, improved the design! In 1806, the first telescopic theodolite was created, making it easier to see distant points. ๐
Since then, theodolites have become really important for
building roads, bridges, and even for mapping the land!
