In our numeral system, each
digit has a special place value! ๐
The value depends on where it sits. For example, in the number 253, the
2 is in the hundreds place, so it means 200. The
5 is in the tens place (50), and the
3 is in the ones place! Easy, right? ๐
This system is called "base 10" because it uses ten digits. Some other systems use different bases, too. The
Binary system is "base 2" (just 0 and 1)! The
Hexadecimal system is "base 16," using digits 0-9 and letters A-F. ๐
Place value helps us make sense of big numbers!
