Did you know that the Moon affects ocean tides? π
During a New Moon (and a Full Moon), the Sun, Earth, and Moon all line up. This creates what we call "spring tides," which are higher than normal! π
ββοΈ The strength of the Moon's
gravity pulls the water towards it, causing the oceans to swell. The opposite happens during a quarter Moon β the sun and Moon pull at different angles, creating "neap tides," which are lower than usual. π
Understanding tides is important for fishermen, sailors, and scientists as they study our oceans and beaches!
