Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846, by astronomer Johann Galle, along with his assistant, Heinrich d'Arrest. ๐
They were trying to find a planet by observing how it affected the orbit of Uranus. Surprisingly, they found Neptune just where they expected! The planet was named after Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, because of its deep blue color. ๐
Before its discovery, people thought there might be another planet beyond Uranus, and they were correct! Over the years, many telescopes have looked at Neptune, giving us lots of amazing
information about this distant planet. ๐ญ
