Nairobi started as a railway camp in 1899, built by the British for the Kenya-Uganda Railway. π
The name "Nairobi" comes from a
Maasai phrase, "Enkare Nairobi," which means "cool water." Over time, it grew fast and became the capital of Kenya in 1963, when the country became independent. Prominent leaders like Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first president, played important roles during this time. π
Nairobi celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1999! Today, the city tells stories of its past through museums, parks, and buildings that remember its exciting history.
