The Library of Congress has a fascinating history! In 1800, it was started to help Congress with
information. The first collection had only 740 books and three maps. π
But in 1814, British soldiers burned down the original library! π’
Thomas Jefferson, the third President, sold his personal library to restart it, adding over 6,000 books! Since then, the library has grown tremendously. By now, it not only serves Congress but also the entire public, helping everyone learn and explore knowledge! π
