The Lavra was founded in 1051 by Saint Anthony, a monk from Greece. π
In the beginning, it was very small, but soon, more monks joined him. Together, they carved caves in the hills for their living spaces and prayer. This unique way of living in caves was special! π‘
As time passed, more churches were built, and the monastery became important for
Ukraine and its culture. In 1073, the first church was constructed, known as the Church of the Dormition. The Lavra grew bigger and spread its influence throughout the region. π
