The ITU started a long time ago, in 1865, when 20 countries met in
Paris to discuss telegraph communication π. In 1932, it became a part of the United Nations (UN) π. The first director, Γdouard EstauniΓ©, wanted to improve global communication. In 1992, the ITU recognized the internet's importance. By the year 2000, mobile phones had exploded in popularity! π±
Today, the ITU continues its mission of connecting people worldwide. Every year, countries gather to discuss new technologies and how to use them to make life better for everyone. π
