George Washington Carver was born on
a farm in Missouri. He was born into slavery, but after the Civil War ended, he was free! π
George was very curious and loved learning. He became known as the "plant doctor" because he helped people with their plants. He attended many schools, sometimes having to walk very far to get there! After high school, he went to college at Iowa State Agricultural College. He was the first African American to earn a degree there! π
Carver worked hard and learned a lot about plants, soil, and farming.
