The gastrocnemius 𦡠is a big muscle in your calf, located at the back of your lower leg. Its name comes from Latin, meaning "belly of the leg." The gastrocnemius helps you run, jump, and walk! It connects to your heel through the Achilles
tendon, which is the tendon that helps you push off the ground. The muscle is also divided into two parts, called heads, which make it look like an upside-down heart. So, whenever you're hopping or playing soccer β½, remember your gastrocnemius is working hard!
