Fishing bats typically have one baby bat, called a pup, each year. πΌ
After a gestation period of about three months, the
mother gives birth in their safe roosts, usually located in tree hollows or caves. The pup is born blind and relies on its mother for food and protection. π¦
As the pup grows, it learns to fly and hunt for fish through practice! By the time theyβre about two months old, they are learning how to catch fish just like mom! The young bats can fly independently after about six weeks and will eventually start families of their own.
