Estuaries come in different shapes and sizes! π
There are four main types:
1.
Coastal Plain Estuaries are formed by rising sea levels, like the Chesapeake Bay.
2.
Tectonic Estuaries are created by earthquakes, like the
San Francisco Bay.
3.
Bar-built Estuaries occur when sandbars create barriers, like in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.
4.
Fjord Estuaries are deep, narrow inlets formed by glaciers, such as in Norway. π
Each type has its unique features but all are important for wildlife.
