Elk are among the largest members of the
deer family! Adult males, called bulls, can weigh between 600-1,100 pounds, while females, called cows, weigh about 500-600 pounds. π΄
Elk have long legs, a large body, and a thick coat of fur that changes color with the seasons. In summer, their coat is a reddish-brown, while in winter, it becomes a greyish-brown. The most impressive feature of a male elk is its antlers, which can grow as big as a bicycle! π΄
Antlers start growing in spring and are completely grown by late summer.
