Earthquakes happen mainly because of the movement of tectonic plates. ๐ชจ
In places where plates meet, stress builds up over time until it suddenly releases. There are three main types of plate boundaries:
divergent, convergent, and transform. At divergent boundaries, plates move apart (like in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge). ๐
At convergent boundaries, plates push together, which can create mountains! ๐
๏ธ At transform boundaries, plates slide past one another, like the San Andreas Fault in California. The movement creates stress that leads to earthquakes!
