The idea for Christ the Redeemer started in the 1850s when a priest, Pedro Maria Boss, dreamed of having a statue on Corcovado Mountain. π
Construction began in 1922, and it took nine years to complete. The statue was officially opened on October 12, 1931, and thousands of people attended the ceremony! π
The statue was designed by a
French sculptor named Paul Landowski, and the engineer Heitor da Silva Costa helped build it. Since its opening, it has become an essential part of Brazilian culture and is often seen in movies, postcards, and travel guides!
