Cabanatuan was founded in 1750 by
Spanish colonizers. The name "Cabanatuan" is said to come from the word βkabanatuan,β which means βthe home of the cabansβ (a type of small fish). π
During World War II, Cabanatuan became famous for the Cabanatuan Prison Camp, where many Filipino and American soldiers were held. In 1945, brave soldiers rescued 500 prisoners in a daring raid! πͺ
Cabanatuan became a city on July 16, 1966, and has grown a lot since then, with schools, hospitals, and businesses popping up everywhere.
