Burrowing owls start their breeding season in spring, around March to May, depending on where they live. π£
They build nests in underground burrows using feathers, grass, and even small bones. The female lays usually 4 to 12 tiny eggs, which are covered with a light, speckled color. After about 28 days, the eggs hatch, and baby owls (called owlets) come out! The parents take care of the young owls and teach them how to hunt. Owlets usually leave the nest after about 6 weeks but stay close by to learn from their parents. π¨
