The Blackfeet people originally lived in the Great Plains and were once known as "Siksika," meaning "black feet," because of their black moccasins. They lived a nomadic lifestyle, following
buffalo herds for food. π¦
The tribe had three major divisions: the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani. They fought against other tribes and settlers, especially during the late 1800s, to protect their land. One famous leader was Chief Flathead. In 1855, they signed a treaty with the U.S. government, which created their reservation. Unfortunately, with time, much of their land was lost, but they continue to celebrate their rich history. ππ
