Barbara Morgan became famous when she was selected as an
astronaut because she was the backup for the first teacher in space, Christa McAuliffe, in 1986. β
After a lot of training, she finally went to space in 2007 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour (on the STS-118 mission). She spent about 13 days in space, helping with important science experiments and construction on the ISS. π
During her career, Barbara also worked at NASA, where she trained astronauts and inspired young people to explore space.
