Aramaic has a long and fascinating history! πΊ
It became popular during the reign of the Assyrian Empire, around 700 BC, and later, the
Babylonian Empire. The language was used by people throughout the Middle East, including Israel and Persia (now Iran). After the Babylonians, many Jews spoke Aramaic, especially after the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem in 586 BC. The language even influenced the speech of Jesus Christ! β
Aramaic continued to be used by people in the region for centuries, until other languages, like Arabic and Turkish, became more popular.
